Was riecht wenn's schmeckt?
21.06.2012, 17:15 - 18:30, Hörsaal B Fachbereich Chemie Martin-Luther-King Platz 6 D-20146 Hamburg
During food consumption, a certain set of volatile constituents induces a pattern of neural activity in the olfactory bulb. However, we all know by experience that the complex neural patterns generated at the odorant receptor site are finally “translated”by our brain into a simple perception telling us, for example, the aroma quality of a black tea beverage. However, since the characteristic aroma of tea is significantly influenced by, e.g., the variety and/or the processing conditions and, also, because offnotes may be formed during storage, there is a clear need to understand the overall aroma of foods on the molecular level. In the past decades, the concept of molecular sensory science was developed by our group aimed at decoding the signature of the genuine key food aroma compounds, the sensobolome able to interact with the odorant receptors during food consumption

6th International Night of Music
04.07.2012, 18:00 - 21:00, Rothenbaumchaussee 36, Raum 08 (EG)
Music is the universal language of humanity that connects cultures – this is what the International Night of Music is all about. For the sixth time, PIASTA offers all students the opportunity to present their musical talents by singing or playing an instrument. With the “International Night of Music”, we’d like to get to know different cultures and new people in Hamburg, make music together, and to liven up your daily study routine. If you enjoy singing or playing an instrument, don’t hesitate to contact us! Participants will meet regularly to enjoy music and to prepare for the performance. Everybody is welcome – professionals and amateurs alike. We invite our friends and fellow students to see our concert at the PIASTA Café. Along with pleasant conversation, we’ll listen to acoustic jazz, pop and classical music performed by talents from all over the world – and all of that live! We are looking forward to presenting an evening of diverse musical contributions to an audience of different nationalities and cultures.
