Semester ticket

As a student of Universität Hamburg and after you have paid your semester fee, you automatically receive a semester ticket or public transportation pass from the HVV or Hamburg transportation association. You can use this ticket commute throughout the whole semester. The benefits:

• The semester ticket is valid around the clock for the entire public transportation system.
• It's cheap than comparable limited HVV tickets for trainees and students.
• You can take up to three children from 6 to 14 years old for free.

The semester ticket cannot be used by other people.

Funding hardship cases

If you can't use your ticket because, for example, you live right near the university or are studying abroad, you can apply for compensation for this portion of your semester fee. Student Services are responsible for these applications and maintains a website on this topic.

Compensation in cases of exmatriculation

If you exmatriculate, you can be compensated for the costs of your semester tickets by submitting your exmatriculation certificate (copy) and having fares office of the S-Bahn Hamburg hand in your semester ticket (original). You will be compensated for the period of time which has not yet been used.
